Nebbiolo is the grape variety behind the top-quality red wines of Piedmont, northwestern Italy, the most notable of which are Barolo and Barbaresco. Nebbiolo wines are distinguished by their strong tannins, high acidity and distinctive scent – often described as "tar and roses". A less obvious characteristic, visible only over time, is their tendency to lose color. Within just a few years of vintage, most Nebbiolo wines begin fading from deep, violet-tinged ruby to a beautiful brick orange.
Mothia “Mosaikon”, Nero d’Avola: a big full-bodied red from an island vineyard off the west coast of Sicily. Great with eggplant parmigiana, lasagna and all hearty rustic dishes.
Gaglioppo is a southern Italian grape variety best known for producing soft red wines from the mountainous Ciro DOC in Calabria.
Capanna Rosso di Montalcino: made from young vines (6-10 years old) of the Brunello clone of sangiovese, this “baby Brunello” emphasizes the vibrant berry fruit of grape. Made for current enjoyment rather than long-aging, this wine offers freshness as well as complexity, a perfect match to Tuscan bean and pork dishes.
Costa d'Amalfi is a DOC of the Campania wine region in southern Italy. Introduced in August 1995, it covers red, white and rosé wines produced along the famous Amalfi Coast (also known as the Amalfitan Coast or Il Costiera Amalfitana). This area has long been famous for its dramatic scenery and rugged terrain, not to mention the picture-postcard seaside villages lining the hills and bays.
Its scent is fruity with flower perfume and its taste is smooth and full-bodied.
Piedirosso means "red feet" in Italian, and is named as such because the stem is made up of three branches and is russet colored making the vine resemble a dove's foot.
The premium red wine from Pedres is cannonau (the grenache of Chateauneuf-Du-Pape fame), which makes a medium bodied wine of great charm, with excellent structure and a long finish.
